If you’re like just about anyone else who uses a computer at all (i.e. if you don’t live under a rock, or if you’re reading this), you’ve more than likely run into the great plague of Viruses, Trojans, Spyware, Malware, etc. etc. And like most, you’ve no doubt seen the outrageous cost of Antivirus Software out there, not to mention the sheer volume of available products.
You’re not alone. A product that we like around here at Tech Fellows is AVG. It’s a free antivirus that’ll do all the things the big boys like Norton and McAfee will do, but won’t cost you an arm and a leg and it definitely won’t eat up your system resources. By that, I mean Norton and McAfee products, in addition to burning through your wallet or pocketbook, will also bring your system to a crawl. I’ve even gone as far as referring to Norton as a Virus because, in addition to slowing down your computer, it’ll imbed itself in your registry and it’s almost impossible to remove without the approved “Norton Removal Tool.”
To download AVG for free, check out http://free.grisoft.com and download the free version. It’s not a trial, you can use it for as long as you like. A word of caution however: if you’re currently running another antivirus, be sure to uninstall it before installing AVG or any other antivirus. Antivirus software has an annoying knack of attacking any other antivirus software introduced to the system while it is still active. You can remove most antivirus programs by going to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and then find and delete the program. Norton is a little different. To remove Norton completely, simply google Norton Removal Tool. Once there, you should easily be able to find a link that should lead you to Symantec’s specialized tool for Norton removal.
Hope this helps. Thanks for visiting http://www.thetechfellows.com
